According to research conducted at Montreal University in Canada, taking antidepressants while pregnant can significantly increase the risk of a miscarriage. The study suggests that expectant women's chances of losing their baby rose by 68 per cent if they were on the widely-used medications. Dr Anick Berard, who led the study, said: "If you are on antidepressants there needs to be tight medical management. One in five women suffer a miscarriage. There is no such thing as a zero-risk pregnancy. This is why it is so important for a pregnant woman on antidepressants to consult their doctor. They should not alter medication on their own."Daily Mirror, June 1, 2010
