Eating pomegranates could reduce the risk of breast cancer, researchers have said.
A study published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research found that chemicals in the fruit called ellagitannins block the production of oestrogen which can cause cancer cells to grow. Professor Gary Stoner, of the Department of Internal Medicine at Ohio State University, said that "relatively high levels of ellagitannin compounds" were needed in the study to have an effect and it was not clear whether they could be achieved in humans.
