Washing your hands in hospital puts you at risk of catching a bug, a leading scientist has claimed.
Professor Hugh Pennington said hospital taps are crawling with germs after being touched by hundreds of patients, staff and visitors. He said: "Using hand taps, you may end up catching more bugs than before you washed your hands." Recent figures showed a drop in the number of cases of MRSA and Clostridium difficile this year, but Prof Pennington said more could be done to stop the spread of hospital diseases.
