Patients recovering from surgery are at a high risk of fatal blood clots for much longer than initially thought, a study has found.
The threat of deep vein thrombosis - the most preventable cause of death in hospitals - continues for up to three months, the research showed. Experts from Oxford University found the likelihood of a patient needing hospital treatment for a blood clot was 70 times higher than the norm for six weeks after the operation.
